Centering Program
Take Charge of Your Prenatal Care
You have the option of choosing Centering Pregnancy care with our midwives in our Dover, NH office during your pregnancy.
In this “patient-powered” group care model, women and their partners meet on a regular basis with others with babies due the same month.
Prenatal care, childbirth education, and peer support are all combined, with the same resources that Garrison Women’s Health Center offers those choosing traditional care.
“Centering was such a blessing to our family! I looked forward to being a part of it with each new pregnancy. Even as a “seasoned” mom, there was always something new and exciting for my husband and I to learn. The midwives teaching the class were all amazing. We had the opportunity to really connect with them on such a personal and intimate level. It is a wonderful way to accommodate working parents, and really allowed us to focus on and enjoy our new little bundle of joy! We now have four children (all under the age of 4) and continue to have lasting friendships with other families we met in our classes. I highly recommend getting involved in a centering class!” ~ Aaron and Carol P, Milton, NH
Why Choose Centering?
Whether this is your first baby or your last, Centering empowers women in their own care, and helps individuals and families prepare for the birth of their baby and the parenting that follows.
Benefits of the unique Centering model include:
- Claiming ownership of your care
- Sharing in a lasting experience
- Bringing partners closer together
- Creating lifelong friendships and supports
- Striving for the healthiest pregnancy
- Active participation with other pregnant women
How Does Centering Work?
Groups are generally comprised of women due in the same month. Partners are encouraged to be active participants.
The meeting framework includes private “belly checks,” self charting, group discussion, and occasional activities.
Discussion topics are timed to coincide with your current pregnancy concerns. Topics most important to each group are prioritized.
No two Centering groups are the same, as they are built by you. Of course, private appointments are always available.
